Alliance & Leicester International Offshore 120 Plus Account issued

An Alliance & Leicester International Offshore 120 Plus Account has been unveiled today, with an interest rate of 4.95 per cent gross per year.

This rate is guaranteed to be at least 0.45 per cent above the Bank of England's base level until September 1st 2006.

A minimum balance of £1,000 is required to open the Alliance & Leicester International Offshore 120 Plus Account and a maximum savings level of £1 million is allowed.

Comparing its offer to other offshore savings accounts, Alliance & Leicester International claims that its 4.95 per cent rate is better than the Standard Bank's offer of 4.9 per cent, First Active's options ranging from 4.75 to 4.9 per cent and the 4.85 per cent available with Anglo Irish.

Simon Hull, managing director of Alliance & Leicester International, said: "The introduction of the Offshore 120 Plus Account enhances our range of savings accounts, enabling us to satisfy the needs of customers by offering consistently high returns."

Withdrawals can be made from the account with 120 days' notice, any money taken out without such notice will be subject to a charge equivalent to 120 days' interest on the amount withdrawn.
