American Express RED Card "a great way" to contribute to charity

An average charity-conscious Briton could increase the amount of money they donate to charity by switching their credit card to an American Express RED Card, the company has claimed today.

Research cited by American Express suggests that the typical British person contributes £200 per year to charity, but this could reportedly be increased by £86 with the company's RED Card.

For every £1 spent on the card, at least one per cent of the total sum will be donated to the Global Fund, aiding causes such as vital health programmes in developing parts of the world.

"Simply by using the American Express RED Card every time you spend, money will make its way to HIV and Aids programmes in Africa," said Deepa Bose of American Express.

"The card is a great way for 'conscience consumers' to make the money they spend on a daily basis really count."

The American Express RED Card is fee-free, with a balance transfer rate of 5.9 per cent and an annual percentage rate of 12.9 per cent.

It includes a REDdeals facility, which will offer discounts on various products and access to entertainment and retail events and a REDpass, which will offer one cardholder the chance to something "bespoke and extraordinary" every three months.

The card also has security provisions, such as travel accident insurance, purchase and refund protection.
