However, such trips could end up with customers paying for more insurance than they really need, as some companies sell packages in set blocks of days, with some only offering products with two bands – one to nine days and ten days or over.
Mike Ketteringham, head of Churchill Travel Insurance, advised customers to check carefully what type of cover they are paying for and that they aren't buying a 'block' policy obliviously.
"As our research shows most travel agents' insurance policies are best suited to those embarking on a week-long holiday rather than those going away for just a couple of days," Mr Ketteringham said.
Churchill Travel Insurance allows customers to tailor their cover on a daily basis, starting from one day, as well as offering medical cover of up to £10 million per person and up to ten per cent no claims discount on renewal.
The company's package also has optional insurance for golf, winter sports and weddings abroad.
