Birmingham Midshires Telephone Premium account launched

The Birmingham Midshires Telephone Premium account has been announced with an interest rate of 4.9 per cent gross, 3.92 per cent net.

These rates include an introductory 12-month bonus of 0.65 per cent.

Once the account has been opened it is operated entirely by telephone and allows three withdrawals without penalty within the first year.

Richard Brown, head of savings products for Birmingham Midshires, described the new account as "a big boost" for savers and spoke of the company's hope that the product's rate would encourage customers to start saving again.

"Birmingham Midshires has consistently been in the best buy tables and has established itself as one of the UK's leading direct savings providers. The Telephone Premium account is our latest initiative to encourage consumers to save cash," he added.

The Birmingham Midshires Telephone Premium account requires a minimum investment of £1 and allows maximum savings of £1 million.
