Nationwide Building Society credit card advice offered

For those with a Nationwide Building Society credit card, the building society has given football fans, planning on travelling to Germany to watch the World Cup this summer, advice about how to avoid scoring financial own goals.

Estimates from Nationwide Building Society predict that travelling fans will spend on average around £1,400 on watching a World Cup match.

Credit or debit cards are an option for customers, who decide they want to take out short-term loans to fund their trip, Nationwide Building Society has advised that customers think carefully about which type of card they chose.

The advice is to avoid making payments in sterling as additional charges may be incurred and choose a card that does not charge for each transaction as many cards do, but users often do not notice until they return home.

Stuart Bernau, Nationwide Building Society executive director, said: "With all the excitement surrounding this year's World Cup it is easy for people to give football priority over their finances. However, traveling fans who act now can avoid paying the price later."

Nationwide Building Society has been associated with the England football team for a number of years, the current sponsorship deal runs out after the upcoming World Cup.
