Zurich Home Insurance wealthy protect their assets

Research by Zurich Home Insurance has revealed today that nine out of ten millionaires in the UK have invested up to £30,000 on personal security and in total the nation's rich have spent as much as £5 billion.

A fifth of those questioned by Zurich Home Insurance admitted they suspected themselves of being specifically targeted by criminals because of their wealth.

The perception among almost three quarters of the rich was that serious crime is on the increase, despite recent crime statistics demonstrating that the number of serious crimes has in fact decreased over recent years.

Hamish Brown MBE, former head of stalking at the Metropolitan Police, said of the findings: "What's important to remember is that the likelihood of being affected by a serious crime, for example, kidnapping or ransom, is still very slim. Interestingly, it's the fear of crime that's actually impacting upon people's anxieties".

The Home Office estimates that more than 100,000 people are affected by identity theft in the UK each year and the Zurich Home Insurance research also showed that identity theft is a major concern for the nations rich.
