One in eight book holiday to avoid World Cup: American Express Travel Insurance

American Express Travel Insurance has found that one in eight Brits intends to travel abroad to avoid the World Cup coverage at home.

American Express Travel Insurance polled 10,000 of its travel insurance customers about their plans for this June and found that 12 per cent plan to go abroad to avoid the football.

Of those who said they intended to leave the country during the tournament, 56 per cent were women.

While 18 per cent said they intended to avoid the football coverage completely, 28 per cent said they wanted to watch as many matches as they possibly could.

Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services, said: "If England gets knocked out of the World Cup we are expecting a rush of last minute bookings."

Thousands of Brits are expected to travel abroad to watch the World Cup and the findings from American Express Travel Insurance suggest that many will also travel abroad to avoid it.
