CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust shows ethical banking pays

Co-operative Insurance has shown that its ethical fund, CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust has outperformed both the UK stock market and the majority of UK Unit Trusts.

Data published by Co-operative Insurance reveals that the CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust produced a return of 83.7 per cent for the three years to April 2006.

The figures for the funds that promote social responsibility compared favourably with the average UK Unit Trust and FTSE all-share that showed a return of 75.4 per cent and 79.6 per cent respectively for the same period.

Investment in ethically screened funds is on the increase a report by Co-operative Bank recently found that in 2004 investment had risen 30 per cent compared with 2003.

Co-operative Insurance Fund Manager, Mike Fox, said: "These results show that choosing to invest in a socially responsible and ethical way can actually improve investment returns."

CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust is part a growing trend for companies to recognise the ecological impact of their activities and to make attempts to manage them.
