Halifax Travel Insurance identifies new type of football follower

Some four out of five Brits abroad will watch the football while they are there, according to Halifax Travel Insurance.

Research shows 42 per cent of Brits choose a holiday destination where football following will be easy and that an average fan will spend £312 per week in foreign bars.

Apart from those following the England team to Germany, thousands are also expected to travel to the Baleric Islands in expectation of a week of sun, sea and soccer.

Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter at Halifax Travel Insurance, said: "It's very interesting to see how the World Cup is shaping how Britons holiday this year. Many die-hard fans are carefully researching the resort, accommodation and even flight times to make sure that they can watch the big games."

Fans also told Halifax Travel Insurance they would support the national team of the country they were holidaying in, if England were to go out of the competition early.
