Halifax Pet Insurance: Don't leave pets in cars

Halifax Pet Insurance has issued a warning on the dangers of leaving pets in cars on hot days, after research revealed the extent of the problem.

According to the survey by Halifax Pet Insurance, more than half of British adults have seen pets cooped up in a car on a hot day and as many as 1.5 million have attempted to rescue the animals.

Irresponsible pet owners can face a fine of £5,000 or possible imprisonment for up to six months under the 1911 Protection of Animals Act.

Mathew Long, senior products manager at Halifax Pet Insurance, said: "First and foremost prevention is better than cure. Under no circumstances is it acceptable to leave a pet unattended inside a car on a warm or even mild day."

Halifax Pet Insurance has been rated as a five star product for features and benefits by independent market research company Defaqto.
