Smashing summer of sport predicted by Halifax Home Insurance

Brits trying to emulate their sporting heroes will cause a rise of at least 20 per cent in the number of windows smashed over summer, according to Halifax Home Insurance.

A record number of broken window claims have been predicted this summer as a result of what Halifax Home Insurance describes as "back garden sporting arenas".

Claims for broken windows are said to hit their peak during and just after the Wimbledon tennis championships but the football World Cup is expected to cause even more home insurance claims.

Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter for Halifax Home Insurance, said: "World Cup fever combined with die-hard Wimbledon and cricket fans could lead to our highest level of claims ever for the summer months."

More than 1.7 million customers cover their home and its contents with Halifax Home Insurance.
