Zurich Insurance: Kids give parents financial headache

The end of the exam season and teenage summer parties are giving British parents serious financial headaches, according to research by Zurich Insurance.

Teens in the UK have managed to cost their parents £136 million pounds in damage to their homes Zurich Insurance revealed.

An average repair bill for parents after their child has thrown a party was found to be £132 pound and 45 per cent of teenagers have thrown a party at home in their parents absence.

Sofas, curtains and other soft furnishings are the most common casualties of a teenage gathering but carpets are damaged most often by food and drink spillage.

Martin Hall, head of home underwriting at Zurich Insurance, commented: "Teenage parties are a fact of life for most parents, and while they always seem to start off small, everyone knows someone who has returned home to a gathering that has got that little bit out of hand."

Zurich Insurance offers home insurance and a range of comprehensive car insurance policies.
