The Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Current Account could offer better deal

Some of the benefits to of banking with Alliance & Leicester could mean customers are missing out on savings, the bank has suggested.

An interest free overdraft and a five per cent rate is guaranteed on the Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Current Account until September 2007.

"Only marriage lasts longer than banking relationships" the bank says and it is the right time to "declare independence" from the big bank current accounts and look for a better deal else where.

Research by Alliance & Leicester has found that a third of Britons admit that they have never shopped around for a better deal on their current account.

Helen Palmer, current accounts manager at Alliance & Leicester, said: "Researching the market to check how competitive your bank is should be routine for all banking customers, especially given how simple and straightforward the switching process is today."

Alliance & Leicester also offers personal loans, mortgages and savings accounts.
