Alliance & Leicester Intermediary Mortgages boss comments on interest rates

The announcement that interest rates are to be maintained has come as no surprise to Mehrdad Yousefi, head of Alliance & Leicester Intermediary Mortgages.

Interest rates remain at 4.5 per cent, the Bank of England has announced meaning that rates have now been unaltered for 11 months.

Mr Yousefi has predicted that demand for housing will remain robust over the coming months, despite the football World Cup resulting in diminished activity in the housing market.

Confidence and activity are thought to be related to any changes in the interest rate movements so there is reason for optimism, Mr Yousefi suggested after the recent announcement.

He said: "Existing borrowers looking to refinance or move up the property ladder should take advantage of tracker deals that are currently priced below the base rate."

"For first time buyers and those on tight budgets, there are still competitive two year fixed-rate mortgages on offer from many lenders," he added.

Alliance & Leicester offers a range of mortgage, loan and credit card products.
