Customers need to ask the right questions, says RIAS Travel Insurance

Many people are rushing into taking out a travel insurance policy without being aware of the criteria which would help them make the best decision, according to RIAS Travel Insurance.

Customers in the travel insurance market base their choices purely on price rather than ensuring they get the best value for money deal, the over-50s insurance company has suggested.

It would be beneficial for providers to be aware of particular medical conditions so appropriate cover can be provided, RIAS says.

It is also advised that customers make sure their insurance company has English speaking call centre in the holiday destination they are travelling to.

Janet Connor, managing director at RIAS, said: "Travel insurance, particularly for the over 50s, should very much be viewed as an essential purchase in a similar way to arranging your currency."

As well as travel insurance, RIAS also offers car, home and breakdown insurance cover.
