HSA Private Medical Insurance: Stress still low on management agenda

Despite stress costing society billions each year, the issue remains low on the agenda for management teams from UK companies, according to research by HSA Private Medical Insurance.

Healthcare managers at companies throughout the country were surveyed and 64 per cent admitted stress has at some point become an issue among their employees.

However, 69 per cent of those questioned said stress related problems were not a priority and so incidents of this nature were dealt with in a reactive, case-by-case manner.

Suzanne Clarkson, head of corporate marketing at HSA, said: "Stress is not exactly a new phenomenon. But when you consider that over half a million people experience work-related stress at a level they believe has actually made them ill it would certainly make sense to acknowledge its potential effects."

HSA was founded in the 1920s and the company provides health cover for over 800,000 people.
