Don't neglect pets in the summer sun, says More Than Pet Insurance

More Than Pet Insurance has issued advice on how to make sure the nation's beloved pets do not suffer as the summer heatwave continues.

Some parts of the UK are experiencing temperatures in the region of 37 degrees C this week and pets are in danger of developing a range of complications and injuries which could prove costly for owners.

Pets need plenty of water to cool them down and should only be walked in the morning or in the evening, More Than has warned.

Research from the insurance provider has revealed that the average cost of treating pets with heatstroke or sunburn is around £270.

Mel Everest, pet product manager at More Than, said: "While we are all enjoying the sun we should spare a thought for our furry friends who need special care to ensure they don't suffer from the heat."

More Than offers a range of different insurance products including car, home and travel insurance.
