Direct Line Car Insurance: Experienced drivers more likely to drink drive

Experienced drivers are more likely to drink alcohol and then get in their cars and drive home, according to a new report from Direct Line Car Insurance.

People between the ages of 30 and 50 years old were found to be the likeliest to consume a considerable number of units before getting behind the wheel.

The study also revealed that one in ten of those polled admitted they would drink on average four units and still drive.

As many as 3,000 people are killed or seriously injured in drink related road accidents each year in the UK, but the recent study found that half of people over 25 had driven after drinking alcohol.

Emma Holyer, a Direct Line Car Insurance spokesperson, commented: "We are pleased to see many young motorists view drink driving as socially unacceptable but we'd like to see older drivers setting a better example."

Customers can get a ten per cent discount on Direct Line Car Insurance when the buy a policy online.
