Over-50s are getting more adventurous, says RIAS Insurance

Extended breaks and adventure holidays are on the increase among the over-50s, according to new research from the specialist insurer RIAS.

The new study revealed that over 750,000 people over the age of 55 have spent over six months abroad.

Travelling long haul was no deterrent to the older adventurers, 25 per cent of whom set off to Australia or New Zealand.

Often the sort of holiday being taken by older generations is thought of as being the preserve of younger people, but the research from RIAS Insurance suggests relaxing in the sun is no longer what over-50s are looking for when they go abroad.

Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, said: "We are seeing an increasing number of older people requesting travel insurance not only for longer periods than the standard one or two week holiday, but also to cover travel to a variety of long haul destinations."
