The Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Current Account gets banking award

The Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Current Account has been named the Moneywise magazine Best Current Account for 2006.

Criteria on which the award was based included customer service levels and the kind of credit and debit interest rates the account offers.

The company's premier current account came in second place, in part because of the free travel insurance and overdraft rate available with the product.

Jeremy King, publisher of Moneywise magazine said: "Alliance & Leicester's fee free Premier Direct account has consistently offered a market leading credit interest rate and highly competitive overdraft rates since its launch."

Helen Palmer, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester, said: "It's a double delight that Premier Direct has been recognised by Moneywise magazine as the UK's best current account for the second year running – and the icing on the cake is second place for our Premier current account."

Alliance & Leicester offers a range of current accounts as well as personal and secured loan products.
