Sheila's Wheels Car Insurance introduces "man on demand" device

A new device designed to make women feel safer when driving their cars has been introduced by the female-friendly car insurer, Sheilas' Wheels.

The "buddy on demand" is a blow up man which inflates at the flick of a switch, to give the impression that female drivers have a male companion in the passenger side of their car.

As many as four million female drivers have admitted to being subjected to intimidation or road rage while driving alone, the Sheilas' Wheels Driving Solo study found.

Women said they feel more fearful driving at night and Sheilas' Wheels hopes the buddy on demand can give women more confidence when they feel vulnerable.

Jacky Brown, a spokesperson for Sheilas' Wheels Car Insurance, said: "The great thing about our Buddy is that you only inflate it when you need it. Then when you're finished with him, you can just pull the plug and put him back in the glove box."

"We're not saying that an inflatable man is the only answer but we do hope it will give women extra confidence and make journeys in the dark less fearful," she added.

Sheilas' Wheels offers a ten per cent discount when policies are ordered online.
