Brits fear of driving abroad revealed by Prudential Car Insurance

Almost two thirds of British people admit they lack confidence when they are driving on foreign roads, according to a recent survey for Prudential Car Insurance.

Despite expert opinion that nervousness behind the wheel can result in more accidents, the research also found that three in five drivers were not clear about the level of car insurance they have when outside the UK.

Prudential has warned that many insurance providers do not offer fire and theft cover and only a third protect their customers under fully comprehensive cover agreements, when outside the country.

Phil Southgate, media relations manager at Prudential, said: "Should they be involved in an accident some drivers may otherwise find themselves at a loss with only third party insurance despite having fire and theft or even fully comprehensive cover in the UK."

"We urge drivers to speak to their insurers so that they can set off to foreign climes with peace of mind," he added.

Prudential was founded in 1848 and the financial services company now employs 23,000 people and has 21 million customers worldwide.
