Portman Building Society Travel Insurance: Older girls still want fun in the sun

Women still want to have holiday fun with their female friends while men grow out of single sex trips abroad, according to new research for Portman Building Society Travel Insurance.

The study has revealed that while 20 per cent of men and women aged 18 to 24 set off on single sex holidays, very few men continue the practice as they get older.

Of those surveyed, only one per cent of men aged 55 to 64 planned to take holidays with their male friends, compared to eight per cent of women.

Helen Shaw, group communications manager at Portman Building Society, said:
"The difference in holiday preferences between the sexes is quite surprising, with a significant proportion of men preferring to holiday alone or considering a quiet place to relax the most important."

"Perhaps there may be some truth to the stereotype of 'grumpy old men'?" She concluded.

Among Portman's range of financial services are mortgage and savings products.
