Big-spending Brits like the finer things in life, says Zurich Insurance.

On a typical day, British people wear around £39 billion worth of things like clothes, mobile phones and jewellery, according to new research from Zurich Insurance.

Women wear or carry the more expensive items, worth £904 on average, compared to £725 for men.

Around ten per cent of people were found to wear designer watches and eight per cent carry a laptop with them on their daily journeys, it was found.

Only 16 per cent of people said they did not carry a mobile phone with them and 27 per cent of those questioned said they have had some of their belongings taken form them.

Martin Hall, head of home underwriting at Zurich Insurance, said: "Everyday we are walking around wearing or carrying things that that are worth a surprising amount - and many people aren't aware of the total value of all of their gadgets and gizmos."

Zurich Insurance is headquartered in Switzerland and offers car and home insurance policies with online discounts.
