HSBC announces new range of mortgages

HSBC has announced a range of new mortgages available to all with rates starting at 4.95 per cent.

The mortgages are only available for a limited period and include a life time tracker mortgage with a rate of 5.34 per cent, a two year fixed rate of 4.95 per cent and a discounted rate of 4.79 per cent.

All offers come with a booking fee of £599 and there are no early repayment charges and no exit fees on any of the new mortgages.

HSBC says that the new mortgages offer something for all of its customers whether they prefer not to pay upfront for fees or if they choose to have a permanently low rate.

Carina Kemp, head of mortgages at HSBC, said: "With a growing trend for lenders to introduce higher fees in return for lower rates, in some cases up to 1.5 per cent of the amount borrowed, HSBC's 'rate saver' mortgage range offers our lowest rates without asking customers to pay through the nose in return for value."

HSBC decided to change its SVR yesterday as a response to the Bank of England's decision to raise the interest rate by 0.25 per cent. The bank's SVR will now rise to six per cent from October 1st this year.
