Barclaycard helping to take pressure off students

Going to university is an expensive adventure, but Barclaycard is aiming to take the pressure off students and their parents.

From September 4th university students will be able to obtain a credit card especially designed for them.

The Barclaycard Student package caters specifically to those in college by offering them lower fees and reduced interest rates.

Banks such as HSBC and NatWest charge 18.9 per cent per annum on their student cards, while Barclaycard has offered students an annual percentage rate of 14.9 per cent.

Understanding that students are often in a tight financial situation during their studies, Barclaycard also promises no over limit fees and a cash rate minimum of £2.50.

James Le Brocq, head of Barclaycard UK credit cards said he understood the importance of students enjoying the university lifestyle without being bombarded with excess fees and debt that can have a negative effect in the future.

"By keeping credit limits sensible, reducing charges and introducing features like text reminders, students can build a credit history which will prove useful throughout university and beyond," he commented.
