Sainsbury's Bank joins insurance battle for customers

In the competitive financial market, many banks are offering special benefits to entice customers.

Travel insurance, a valuable asset for jet-setting Brits, is the latest bonus to those who change banks.

Both Sainsbury’s Bank and Alliance & Leicester are offering deals on overseas insurance if people use their accounts for their everyday banking needs.

Sainsbury’s is offering a ten per cent discount on travel to Europe, with cover starting from as low as £9.

At Alliance & Leicester switching to their Premier or Premier Direct accounts offers competitive interest rates and free or discounted travel insurance.

Helen Palmer, head of current accounts at Alliance & Leicester, said: "The restructure of the accounts ensures we offer a choice of market leading accounts with different benefits based on differing customer preferences."
