Nationwide: Brits are taking risks with their homes

No one would leave their doors unlocked when they leave the house and not worry about what is going to happen to their belongings.

But a Nationwide Building Society survey says that Brits are basically doing just that by not taking out home and contents insurance.

Of almost 1,500 people questioned, 25 per cent admit to not having home and contents insurance. A further 39 per cent do not have buildings insurance.

Nationwide’s insurance director, Robin Bailey, says that in this day and age, taking out insurance is a must.

"It is astounding that so many people are prepared to take such a gamble on their homes and personal belongings when you consider how much time and money we all invest in our homes," he said.

To encourage people to insure everything that they work so hard for, Nationwide is offering new and improved standard insurance coverage.
