Legal & General Insurance: Teens increase value of home contents

Young people's love of hi-tech gadgets is seemingly pushing home contents value up, but the insurance provider says many people are still failing to review their insurance in line with this trend.
In fact, Legal & General Insurance claims that only a quarter of home owners have adapted their insurance policies.
Technological purchases account for five of the top ten items people shop for, Legal & General Insurance revealed.
"While the research suggests consumer buying for the home is strong, the findings also point to an alarming gap when it comes to protecting the valuable items people have bought," comments Garry Skelton, marketing director at Legal & General Insurance.
Mr Skelton has also warned against the underestimation of home contents value, claiming that many reckon their possessions cost under £15,000.
However, he warned that an average household with a three-bedroom house is likely to own valuables worth more than £35,000.
