RBS Student Loyalties account to 'boost budget'

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is claiming one of its accounts could help stretch students' budgets a little further.

The RBS Student Royalties account could save students money on necessities during their studies as well as day-to-day purchases, claims Paul Jeffrey, the bank's head of student banking.

He says the RBS Student Royalties "offers a full range of financial and lifestyle benefits".

"Another advantage is that students have immediate access to really usable benefits such as discounts off books, CDs, DVDs and personal contents insurance," Mr Jeffrey adds.

However, Mr Jeffrey insists that the key to successful financial management is "careful budgeting".

The bank's Student Living Index for 2006 found that Cardiff is the most cost-effective British city for students, followed by Leeds and Coventry.

In comparison, Cambridge worked out the most expensive, with Durham and Aberdeen also rating low on cost-effectiveness.
