swiftcover.com offers 'green' car insurance discount

A ten per cent discount on car insurance has been offered by swiftcover.com as an incentive for 'greener' drivers.

The discount of ten per cent to the swiftcover.com car insurance premiums will be offered to drivers with more environmentally-friendly cars in a bid to encourage more drivers to follow suit.

Research undertaken by swiftcover.com has pointed to the fact that the vast majority of motorists would be prepared to drive a greener car with 97 per cent of those surveyed stating as such.

Andrew Blowers, chief executive of swiftcover.com, declared: "We are very powerfully attached to our cars and either unable or unwilling to give them up for the sake of our environment."

"We recognise this fact, but also want to help encourage more motorists to consider the eco-friendly cars on the market," Mr Blowers continued.

A total of 73 per cent of drivers said they would only consider switching to a more eco-friendly car if it was cheaper to buy than their existing model, while 70 per cent would switch if it was cheaper to run.

A website had been set up by swiftcover.com to encourage greener driving alternatives for the UK's motorists and it focuses on specific areas, offering tips how to be more environmentally-friendly when it comes to travel.
