Portman Building Society fixed-rate mortgage rates dropped

The Portman Building Society fixed-rate mortgage range has been altered to incorporate a lower interest rate on the two, three and five-year products.

A lower rate of 5.69 per cent is now offered on the Portman Building Society two-year fixed-rate mortgage whereas an interest rate of 5.63 per cent is charged on the three-year fixed-rate product.

The 100 per cent mortgage products are all subject to a booking fee of £299 and the building society offers customers the option of purchase or remortgage.

Matthew Wyles, Portman's group development director, commented: "Instead of just helping first-time buyers with these loans, the 100 per cent remortgage product means we can now help people coming out of divorce who, as a result, may have a limited amount of equity."

According to the building society, it has been the recipient of three mortgage provider awards during 2006 as well as the winner of a gold award for its standard of service at the Lending Excellence Awards.
