Alliance & Leicester mobile phone banking to be launched

Alliance & Leicester has declared its intention of introducing mobile phone banking at the beginning of next year.

Run via the Monilink network, Alliance & Leicester mobile phone banking will allow customers to gain access to their current accounts while on the move.

Once registered for Alliance & Leicester mobile phone banking, customers will be able to request mini-statements as well as check their account balance whenever they choose.

Ian Tandy, director of e-commerce at Alliance & Leicester, stated: "The mobile phone is already a central tool in people's every day lives – we increasingly lead digital lifestyles with mobiles acting as the hub."

"Accessing banking details via a mobile phone is the next natural step and one we think our current account customers will embrace," he added.

To ensure security while using the service, every customer will be provided with a passcode and once personal details have been sought, they will not remain on the handset, eliminating the risk of fraud.

The Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Current Account claims to be the market-leader at present, offering a rate of 6.10 per cent AER and will be one of the accounts that customers will be able to check on their phones.
