Awards for Alliance & Leicester online banking

Alliance & Leicester online banking has been recognised for its attempts to provide better security for its customers through a new authentication system which is designed to tackle the rise in phishing.
Phishing is type of a criminal activity which involves fraudulently acquiring customer's personal details, such as passwords and PIN numbers, by masquerading as their bank or building society.
Andy Muddimer, head of internet banking at Alliance & Leicester, said: "We take customer security extremely seriously.
"The two-way, two-factor innovation puts us at the forefront of online security, yet it is simple, straightforward, cost-effective and does not require customers to invest in new hardware or software."
The Alliance & Leicester online banking team was named innovation winner at the CNET Networks UK Technology Awards 2006 and new product, service or innovation winner in the Financial Services Forum 2006 awards.
It also came top in the innovation category of the Institute of Financial Services' Best Retail Direct Channels Initiative.
