Millions wasted on vouchers, says NatWest

They may prove to be an easy option when it comes to Christmas presents, but research by NatWest has shown that over £105 million goes on gift vouchers that remain unused during the festive season.

It was also found that £40 million worth of vouchers are exchanged for money as half of recipients complained that receiving them was restrictive.

The NatWest Gift Card is set to be launched which allows customers the option of topping it up with cash between the values of £10 and £250, which can then be used in hundreds of thousands of stores across the UK.

Helen Page, NatWest's marketing director, commented: "As Christmas can pose a real challenge for even the most imaginative shopper, we have launched the NatWest Gift Card to help ease the stress of finding the perfect present for those 'difficult to buy for' friends and relatives."

NatWest is not the only bank to offer its customers a pre-paid gift card, as the Visa Gift Card has already hit the market.
