Nearly £800k a minute to be blown on Xmas eve

Christmas Eve is going to see a huge amount of last minute festive spending as Sainsbury's Bank predicts a total of £791,667 will be spent per minute.

This equates to £1.14 billion being splashed out on the day before the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ and £200.6 million is estimated to go on credit cards.

With many shoppers in the UK deciding to leave their Christmas present shopping to the very last minute, Sainsbury's Bank says that a credit card that offers zero per cent APR could be a good way to spread the cost of Christmas.

Donald MacLeod, credit card manager at Sainsbury's Bank, said: "Our research suggests that it could be a busy time for the shops on Christmas Eve and that a lot of people will be using their credit cards. A card with a long interest free period can be a good way to spread the cost of Christmas."

Sainsbury's Bank Standard and Platinum credit cards both come with zero per cent APR for ten months and then revert to a typical variable rate of 15.9 per cent APR.
