PruHealth: Get fit and save cash

PruHealth has urged obese people to begin a healthy regime in order to cut the cost of their health insurance premiums.

By setting up collaborations with both health screening companies and gyms, PruHealth says that customers should make use of these services and according to Natalie Eyles, spokesperson for the company, improvements in lifestyle could benefit individuals financially.

Her comments come in the wake of a warning issued by Legal & General that said overweight people were directly affecting their life insurance premiums as a result of their heaviness.

Ms Eyles explained the incentives on offer from PruHealth to encourage a healthier lifestyle: "Basically we have teamed up with gyms and healthcare providers and other healthy organisations so that if you do healthy activities you earn points.

"The more points you get, at the end of the year you get a discount on your renewal premium which can be anything between 25 per cent if you haven't earned any points but you haven't made a claim and 100 per cent of what you have paid this year back."

She went on to state that no-one would be turned away from receiving PruHealth life insurance purely for being obese.
