NatWest Welcome Account is first for Poles

NatWest has launched the first dedicated Polish bank account in Britain, allowing Polish-speaking migrants living and working in this country to transfer money to their families at home.

The NatWest Welcome Account will be delivered and supported entirely in the Polish language in order to meet the needs of Polish migrants coming to the UK for the first time. It will include telephone and internet banking.

It will provide migrants with all the benefits of a normal current account but will come with a special Money Transfer Account into which they can transfer funds straight from their current account.

Funds deposited in the Money Transfer Account can be accessed from anywhere in the world using an ATM card and a pin number by a family member or friend elected by the account holder.

Helen Page, NatWest's marketing director, said: "This straightforward package is perfect for a Polish speaker's initial banking needs because it provides day-to-day banking and a safe, inexpensive way to send money to family back home."

The launch of the NatWest Welcome Account follows a similar move by Lloyds TSB to offer specialist services for Britain's Polish community in some of its branches.
