Lloyds TSB sees 60% more claims due to storms

Storms currently hitting many parts of Britain have resulted in 60 per cent more insurance claims than predicted, according to Lloyds TSB Insurance.

As a result of adverse weather that the BBC reports has killed two people so far, extra staff have had to be drafted in by Lloyds TSB to cope with the excess claims being received.

Motorways have seen closures and trees have been toppled as gale force winds lash the British Isles. Consequently, Lloyds TSB has issued advice to homeowners who need to claim because of the conditions.

Customers are urged to contact their insurer as soon as possible in the event of a claim and they should also make themselves fully aware of exactly what their policy covers them for.

David Stoddard, head of customer service, Lloyds TSB Insurance said: "Storms can cause serious damage to properties in a matter of seconds and of course anyone affected will want to get things back to normal as soon as possible.

"The best way to make sure your claim is dealt with quickly and efficiently is to contact your insurer as soon as the damage is done. It's especially important to start the process early at times like this. With call volumes so high, lines can get extremely busy and we're asking customers to be patient while we deal with their enquiries."

Customers should ensure that all receipts obtained for repair work are kept, Lloyds TSB has advised. Also, the bank has said that it has 24-hour helpline that provides tips on tradespeople to contact should customers need this option.
