Every county now has £100k houses

Every single county in Britain now has an average property price of more than £100,000, new research by Halifax shows.

The least expensive county in the UK, Blaenau Gwent in Wales, saw its average price of property surpass the £100,000 barrier last year with the figure standing at £107,451.

However, Blaenau Gwent has had a 160 per cent growth rate in its housing market during the past five years, second only to Merthyr Tydfil with 175 per cent growth, highlighting the extent of the property boom in Wales.

Halifax chief economist Martin Ellis said: "Much of the out-performance by these parts of the UK has been part of a catch-up process with the greater availability of more affordable property stimulating demand and therefore allowing prices to rise more quickly."

Halifax says that this is the first year that every county has an average price of over £100,000 and back in 2001, only 63 out of 101 counties could boast this fact.
