'Competitive' Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance for holiday bookers

An estimated 15.44 million people are planning to book their holidays before the end of next month, claims Sainsbury's Bank travel insurance.

The holiday insurance provider is forecasting that the average person plans to spend a total of £677 on their travels this year, with 19 per cent prepared to spend over £1,000 on their vacation.

However, many of these early bookers will fail to shop around for the most competitively priced travel insurance policy and around 12 per cent will simply opt for the cover offered by their travel agent, despite booking early in order to reduce costs.

Robert O'May, travel insurance manager with Sainsbury's Bank, advised holidaymakers to make sure they fully research their options, especially when it comes to buying something as vital as holiday insurance.

"At this time of year when people are planning their next trip it is easy to get excited about destinations, resorts and even flights but travel insurance may seem a little mundane.

"It's worth remembering that shopping around for insurance is just as important as you could save against travel agent prices," said Mr O'May.

Sainsbury’s Bank travel insurance can be purchased online and the cost of an annual policy starts at around £30.
