CIS: More people want greener products

With the British consumer increasingly turning towards greener products and services, Co-operative Insurance (CIS) has said that it believes there will be a rise in the eco insurance sector.

The annual Ethical Consumerism Report was compiled by CIS's sister company the Co-operative Bank and it discovered that Brits have increased their spending on ethical products from £ 8 billion to £29.3 billion in six years.

Tending towards the changing nature of the market, CIS eco motor insurance was launched by the insurer last July.

David Neave, CIS director of general insurance, said: "All the evidence points to consumers taking on board the issues surrounding climate change."

"From our annual Ethical Consumerism Report, it is apparent that more and more consumers are becoming environmentally aware and that influences what they buy, including the purchase of car insurance," he added.

Features of the CIS eco motor insurance policy include the offsetting of 20 per cent of all CO2 emissions created by the insured vehicle and premium discounts being made available for drivers who run greener vehicles.
