Alliance & Leicester Premier Isa launched

More customers could be encouraged to switch current accounts from one of the so-called big four banks after the Alliance & Leicester Premier Isa account was launched for a limited time only with a rate of seven per cent.

Guaranteed to offer customers a rate that is at least one per cent above the Bank of England base rate until April next year, the account is linked to the Alliance & Leicester's premier current account.

Described as offering an "unrivalled interest rate" in terms of tax efficient saving products, the Alliance & Leicester Premier Isa account is intended to offer the bank's customers an easy way of helping them take advantage of their Isa limit.

Ross Dalzell, manager for savings at Alliance & Leicester said: "Alliance & Leicester's current accounts are recognised as being amongst the best on the market and this new Isa offer makes it even more attractive to switch."

He added that the account would most probably primarily appeal to those people who had not yet used their Isa complement before the April 5th deadline.

A minimum investment of £1 is required for the Alliance & Leicester Premier Isa product and this rises to a maximum of £3,000 each year.
