Non-smokers benefit from lower insurance premiums

With an annual no-smoking day set to take place later this month, consumers are being encouraged to realise they could save themselves a great deal of money on their insurance deals.

Taking place on March 14th, the 24th annual no-smoking day comes before the roll out of a complete smoking ban in all enclosed public spaces across the UK in July.

Independent life insurance and protection group Life Search has created a table showing that most insurance groups deem ex-smokers to be non-smokers within a year of kicking the habit.

While the group claims that a 30-year-old male smoker would pay £14.15 for monthly life cover, a similar package for a non-smoker at Royal Liver would cost £8.54.

Kevin Carr, head of protection strategy at Lifesearch, said: "Just about everyone realises the potential health benefits of giving up smoking and most appreciate the direct financial saving, but not many people realise how much they could save on their life insurance as well."
