Only Finance: Legal & General 'improves' critical insurance offering

Legal & General's adding of more illnesses to the list of conditions incorporated into its critical illness package means that its offering is "pretty good".

According to James Bailey, insurance advisor at Only Finance, while Bupa critical illness cover was still the "best by far", Legal & General have "upped" their package.

Mr Bailey also explained that Legal & General's additions had not made their premiums more expensive in the process.

"It is much more competitive to have life and critical illness together rather than just critical illness cover on its own because all the different insurers are competing with each other," he also commented.

The group's announcement follows a Financial Services Association investigation into critical illness cover last year, which found that some firms were not making customers aware of the importance of revealing a full medical history when purchasing a package.

Approximately a quarter of critical illness cover claims are rejected on the grounds of lack of disclosure.
