Saga Motor Insurance: key 'hiding' vital

Motorists are being encouraged to store away their keys away from the eyes of car thieves.

New research carried out by the Saga Motor Insurance group shows that one in ten Britons store their keys in a place which is visible from outside, such as a key rack.

However, over a third (37 per cent) of drivers are remaining vigilant about the prospect of theft by hiding their keys at home in a secret place.

Saga's research also found that people over the age of 50 were more likely to be security conscious, with almost a fifth remaining vigilant compared to just 13 per cent of young people.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive of SAGA said: "It might not be the first thing on your mind when you come home, but drivers should get into the habit of putting their keys somewhere out of sight; leaving them on display makes them an easy target for the opportunistic thief."

In order to remain as secure as possible, consumers might be encouraged to pick up a Saga insurance package.

Saga insurance packages have no upper age limits and provide additional cover in the EU at no extra cost.
