Home improvers encouraged to be insurance-savvy

Britons are being encouraged to make sure they are comprehensively insured as they look to make home improvements over the Easter period.

According to Richard Mason, director of insurance at price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, people should secure themselves against each and every potential DIY mishap over the Easter period.

Mr Mason said that people should check whether they have accidental damage cover on home insurance.

"Bigger DIY improvements like a new kitchen or bathroom is likely to add to the value of your property, so you should contact your insurer to increase your cover accordingly. In fact, check the details of your home insurance policy on an annual basis as the re-build value could also increase if improvements have been made," he added.

The price comparison site also advised that those people looking to make the traditional Bank Holiday getaway had adequate breakdown insurance.

Mr Mason added that UK breakdown policies did not automatically provide cover for driving abroad, so that consumers should check to make sure they were comprehensively covered.
