Standard Life: Fund enjoying 'strong performance'

Fund manager Standard Life Investments has celebrated the strong performance of its higher income fund since it was introduced over seven years ago.

Launched in February 2000, the Standard Life fund has now broken through the £500 million barrier, enjoying especially strong performance over the year to date.

Over a five-year period, it is claimed that the Standard Life fund has provided average returns of 52 per cent to investors, compared to a sector average of just 43 per cent.

Erlend Lochen, head of high yield and joint manager of the higher income fund at the group, said the strong performance was due to "good stock selection and a significant weighting in the high yield within the fund".

He added: "We will continue to build a strong high yield team that can maintain and improve on our successful stock selection to provide competitive investment performance going forward."

Standard Life has assets under management totalling some £132.1 billion.
