Alliance & Leicester unveils new mortgage range

Alliance & Leicester (A&L), the high street lender, has unveiled a new package of specialist mortgages.

The bank said its four new mortgage deals would inject fresh competition into the buy-to-let, self-certified and near prime markets.

A&L's new offerings consist of a two-year fixed rate buy-to-let, a two-year buy-to-let that tracks below the Bank of England base rate, a self-certified two-year base rate tracker and two-year fixed rate aimed at near prime borrowers.

"Our latest range is extremely competitive with rates starting at just 5.09 per cent," said Jeremy Claridge, head of specialist mortgages at A&L.

"We've introduced some new lower priced buy-to-let and self-cert products with fixed arrangement fees giving brokers even more choice."

The mortgages market is growing increasingly competitive as homeowners and investors shop around in a climate of rising interest rates.

Despite leaving the base rate on hold this month, the Bank of England is expected to increase the cost of borrowing again in the near future.
