Alliance & Leicester: Homeowner demographic 'set for change'

Stephen Leonard, director of mortgages at Alliance & Leicester, believes that an "appetite for moving will increase in the future as new generations of householders emerge".
One of the trends which is becoming most apparent in the housing market, according to the report, is the emergence of the so-called 'adkid'.
Keen to leave major life decisions until later on than ever, adkids are likely to live at home for longer periods of time, entailing that parents are 'empty nesters' for less time than ever before.
Looking forward to 2026, Alliance & Leicester's report predicts that increasing numbers of consumers will be living on their own, while multi-person households will also increase during the period.
Mr Leonard said: "Changing demographics and social attitudes will inevitably have an effect on the housing market in the future, for example, the number of times that people move in their lifetime, or the increase or decrease in the type of household they live in."
Customers can choose from a number of Alliance & Leicester mortgages which cater to their requirements most closely.
